In an effort to raise the level of awareness of safe riding practices, the Chapter has agreed to sponsor the Safe Rider Recognition Award. This program is designed to recognize members who practice good riding skills or consistently demonstrate safe riding practices on Chapter sanctioned group rides.

Jesse D. presented a Safe Rider Award Pin to the following member after receiving a letter from Matt K. regarding the help offered to him when he had an unsafe tire.

Jesse D. presented a Safe Rider Award Pin to the following member after being informed that, after the La Posta Ride, Mitch and Piper came across a non member motorcyclist that required first aid on Hwy 79 near Julian. They stopped and Mitch evaluated the situation and administered first aid to the cyclist.

The Safe Rider Recognition Award will be a new, one-of-a-kind pin.

We want everyone to have fun when we ride, but we are also concerned about your safety. We want to have our riding friends riding with us for a long time. We believe this program will keep safety top-of-mind because this will become a very desirable award to receive. Why? Because you will only be eligible to receive this award the old fashioned way..... you EARN it. It is earned only by observation of a fellow chapter member or members who believe the nominee demonstrates outstanding safe riding skills and practices.

Thats the program. Keep safe riding top-of-mind yourself and be alert to members in group rides to see who you feel might deserve recognition. We're not going to give this pin out like candy, so it will be very prestigious for the few, the proud, who receive it!

THE RULES

1. Any San Diego HOG Chapter member in good standing is eligible to receive the Safe RiderRecognition.

2. The member must be nominated for this award by another chapter member…no member can nominate him/herself.

3. Nominations must be made in writing on the Safe Rider Recognition Form (these forms will also be available at HOG Beach in the dealership). This does not have to be complicated, just 25 to 50 words explaining why you feel this person is eligible is all that's needed (handwritten is fine, as long as it is legible).

4. The completed nomination form should be turned in to the Chapter Safety Officer or any of the Primary Officers (Director, Assistant Director, Treasurer, Secretary) in person or via e-mail.

5. The Chapter Officers will review nominations at the monthly board meeting to determine if there will be a recipient. Award determination will be made by majority vote at the board meeting. The decision is solely up to the Chapter Officers who can deem to make an award or they can deem not to do so.

6. If there is a recipient, he or she will be announced at the next general meeting and be awarded the Safe Rider Recognition Award.
